Privacy policy

Hey Skin is a skincare coach app run by Heyskin ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and how you can delete it. Questions: contact@heyskin.app.
- We collect what the app needs to coach your skin: your quiz answers, selfies, routine, products and chats with the coach.
- Selfies, label photos, photos you send the coach and coach chats are sent to an AI service to be analysed. We do not sell your data and the app has no advertising trackers.
- Brands only ever see anonymous totals, never you.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.
1. What we collect
| Data | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Name, email address and account id from Google or Apple sign-in. Apple may hide your email. | To sign you in and keep your data across phones. |
| Skin quiz and profile | Name you give, gender, age range, skin type, concerns, sensitivity, goal, and if you choose to answer: pregnancy or breastfeeding, medicines (for example isotretinoin), supplements, diet, water and sleep. | To make advice safe and personal, for example avoiding ingredients during pregnancy. |
| Selfies and skin scores | Photos you take for a skin scan and the scores and notes the analysis returns. | To score your skin and show progress over time. |
| Product label photos | Photos of ingredient lists you scan. | To check the product against your skin. The photo is not stored after the check. |
| Photos sent to the coach | A photo you choose to send with a coach question, such as a spot or a product. | To answer that question. The photo is not stored on our server; the app keeps its own copy on your phone. |
| Coach chats and memory | Messages you send the coach, its replies, and short notes it keeps about you (for example "sensitive to fragrance"). | To answer you and remember context. You can view and delete the notes in the app. |
| Routine, products and streak | Your morning and night steps, the products on your shelf, reminders. | To build your routine and remind you. |
| Feedback and ratings | Thumbs up or down on coach replies, check-in scores and anything you write to us. | To improve the coach and the app. We may read rated replies to fix bad answers. |
| App usage and device | Screens opened, features used, errors and crashes, a random install id, phone model, operating system, app version, language, region, time zone and, on Android, the store link that led to the install. If you allow notifications, a push token for your phone. | To understand what works, fix bugs and see which campaigns bring people in. |
| Things you share | When you share a "guess my score" link: your first name and your latest skin score, plus the guesses and optional first names friends type on that page. When you invite a glow buddy: who invited whom. | To run the guessing page, show you your friends' guesses, give both of you your invite reward and show your shared streak. |
| Shopping taps | Which suggested product you tapped. | To measure suggestions and earn affiliate commission. |
Some of this, such as skin photos, pregnancy and medicines, is sensitive. You give it by choice, and you can skip optional questions. We use it only to coach you.
2. Who we share it with
- AI processing. Selfies, label photos, photos sent to the coach, coach messages and the profile details the coach needs are sent through OpenRouter to AI model providers (currently including Google Gemini) to produce answers. They process it to answer the request and under their own terms.
- Subscriptions. If you buy Hey Skin Pro, Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your card. RevenueCat, our subscription service, receives a random account id, the purchase receipt, product, price, country and dates, so the app knows Pro is active on all your phones.
- Support. When you contact support we keep your message, the email you give us, our reply, and your app version, phone model and system version, to answer you. They are deleted with your account.
- Hosting. Our server and database are hosted by Hostinger.
- Sign-in. Google and Apple confirm who you are when you sign in.
- Push notifications. If you allow notifications, Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (and Apple's push service on iPhone) delivers our notifications, such as a nudge from a glow buddy. They receive your phone's push token and the notification text, not your profile.
- Weather. If you turn on local weather, your phone sends a rough location (rounded to about 10 km) straight to Open-Meteo to get today's UV and weather. It is not sent to our server.
- Voice questions. If you speak a question to the coach, your phone's own speech recognition (Apple or Google, depending on your phone) turns it into text. Depending on your phone, the audio may be processed by Apple or Google under their terms. We never receive the audio, only the text you choose to send.
- On your phone only. The face-angle check during a face scan, your routine times for smart reminders, badges, the home screen widget, your skin diary, spot tracker, patch tests, challenges, SPF timer, travel plans, the doctor report and where you live versus where you are now (used to switch on travel mode by itself) all stay on your phone. None of it is sent to us unless you share it yourself.
- Air quality and travel. With local weather on, the same rough location also goes to Open-Meteo's air quality service. In travel mode, the city you search for is sent to Open-Meteo to find it and get its weather.
- People you share with. Anyone with your "guess my score" link can see your first name and, after guessing, your score. A glow buddy sees your first name, whether you finished today's routine and your shared streak, never your photos, scores or chats.
- Skin twins. We show you combined, anonymous statistics about which routine steps helped people with skin like yours. Your own routine and score changes count towards these numbers for others the same way. Groups too small to stay anonymous are never shown.
- Stores you visit. When you tap a product link you leave the app for that store (for example Daraz), and its privacy policy applies. Some links are affiliate links.
- Brands. We may share anonymous, combined statistics (for example "how many people with oily skin scanned this brand"). Groups too small to stay anonymous are never shown. No names, photos, messages or anything that identifies you.
- The law. If we are legally required to.
We do not sell personal data, and the app contains no advertising SDK or advertising id.
3. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, selfies, scores, chats, coach memory, feedback and the usage data linked to your account are deleted from our server. Label photos and photos sent to the coach are never stored. Usage data from before you signed in, linked only to a random install id, may be kept to understand how the app is used.
4. Your choices and rights
- See and edit your profile, routine and products in the app.
- Delete coach memory one note at a time or all at once (Profile → Coach memory).
- Delete selfies one by one from your scan history.
- Delete your account in Profile → Delete account, or see how to ask us.
- Ask for a copy or a correction of your data by writing to contact@heyskin.app.
5. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. Your sign-in token is kept in your phone's secure storage, and selfies are stored privately on our server, never at a public address. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not share anything you are not comfortable sharing.
6. Children
Hey Skin is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. Teenagers should use it with a parent's knowledge. If you think a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Not medical advice
The coach gives general skincare information, not a diagnosis. See our terms.
8. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app when the change is important.
